Aetiology
Other specified allergic or hypersensitivity disorders involving the respiratory tract can be caused by a range of environmental and biological factors, such as pollen, dust, mold, animal dander, chemical fumes, and other airborne allergens. These allergens can trigger an immune system response in the body, leading to inflammation and irritation of the airways.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of other specified allergic or hypersensitivity disorders involving the respiratory tract may involve a physical examination, allergy testing, chest X-rays, and/or pulmonary function tests. Blood tests may also be conducted to measure levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE), which is a marker for allergies.
Differential diagnosis
Other specified allergic or hypersensitivity disorders involving the respiratory tract should be differentiated from other conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and infections.
Treatment
Treatment of other specified allergic or hypersensitivity disorders involving the respiratory tract may include antihistamines, steroids, decongestants, and/or bronchodilators to reduce symptoms. Allergy shots may also be recommended as a preventative measure.
Prognosis
With proper treatment, the prognosis for other specified allergic or hypersensitivity disorders involving the respiratory tract is generally good. However, some people may experience recurrent symptoms or the development of new allergies over time.
