Aetiology
Injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of anterior muscle group at lower leg level may be caused by direct or indirect trauma, muscle strain, tendon strain, or overuse.
Diagnosis
Injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of anterior muscle group at lower leg level can be diagnosed through physical examination, imaging such as X-ray, MRI, and ultrasound, and laboratory tests such as complete blood count and biochemical tests.
Differential diagnosis
Differential diagnosis includes compartment syndrome, stress fracture, nerve entrapment, tendinopathy, and deep vein thrombosis.
Treatment
Treatment may include rest, immobilization, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and in some cases, surgery.
Prognosis
The prognosis for injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of anterior muscle group at lower leg level depends on the severity of the injury, the adequacy of treatment, and the patient’s general health. In most cases, the prognosis is good with appropriate treatment.
