Aetiology
Fracture of the intermediate cuneiform is usually caused by a direct blow or trauma to the foot. It can also be caused by overuse or repetitive stress on the bones of the foot.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of a fracture of the intermediate cuneiform is usually made based on a physical examination and imaging studies, such as X-rays.
Differential diagnosis
Other conditions that may be confused with a fracture of the intermediate cuneiform include stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, and tendonitis.
Treatment
Treatment for a fracture of the intermediate cuneiform may include immobilization with a cast, crutches, and/or physical therapy. Surgery may be necessary if the fracture is severe.
Prognosis
The prognosis for a fracture of the intermediate cuneiform is generally good. Most patients recover fully with proper treatment and rehabilitation.
