Aetiology
Injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of long flexor muscle of toe at ankle or foot level can be caused by direct or indirect trauma, overuse or repetitive strain, or a combination of these factors.
Diagnosis
Injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of long flexor muscle of toe at ankle or foot level can be diagnosed through a physical examination, an X-ray, ultrasound or MRI.
Differential diagnosis
Differential diagnosis includes hamstring strain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, medial or lateral ankle sprain, and ankle instability.
Treatment
Treatment includes rest, ice, compression, elevation, and NSAIDs for pain relief. Physical therapy may also be used to help promote healing and strengthen the muscle.
Prognosis
Prognosis for injury of muscle, fascia or tendon of long flexor muscle of toe at ankle or foot level is generally good with proper treatment.
